Best show you've ever seen?

I have a version of the show, but not as complete as this one! How can I get this without loading Bittorrent on my comupter?

I REALLY want to get this... anybody willing to trade?

I was lucky enough to hang with Carlos on a few of the JT dates back in late 94 early 95, sitting at the back of the bus just working on stickings listening to some latin grooves while Jimmy was up front trying to relax and read a book.. But I have to say seeing him with Burning Water was the real treat. CV with Taylor was inredible and inspiring, but to see him be the muscle in BW was just numbing.

As to that tour, not sure when you caught it but yes Carlos was in a very bad position and during the tour his wife and girls had to be brought out to hang with him just so they could finish the remaining dates without him losing all control.

James Taylor with his smaller all-star band in London in 1998, just before Carlos passed on.

It was magical, and something I'll never forget.

It's really well done, no dubbing issues or synching problems and good clear shots of Jack.

My guess is that his sig line of Sabians only sound good when he plays them.

OK Story Time, gather round:

My first week in LA I was moving furniture into my place and one of the tennants introduced himself, so you're a drummer, yada yada. Proceeds to tell me VINNIE is playing at Catalina's (where?) all week with the Patitucci band. This was 1993.
That night I went with some friends and being right off the truck from Jersey it was quite an experience. I didn't have the understanding of phrasing that I do now and as a result it was more OMG OMG WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT (which I still do really hehe). It was magical.
We went 3 nights that week and one night, Vinnie played a huge drum solo in the FIRST tune of the set that got a STANDING OVATION, on the first tune! I've never seen anything like it since. After the applause died down, I said jokingly to my friend, "wow..not bad!" Vinnie heard this and starts screaming into the audience.."Not Bad? Who said that? Well FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU NOT BAD!" Needless to say I sank into my chair having caused a ruckus with my sarcasm. He didn't see who said it but after the show I spoke with him and told him I said it, I was obviously kidding, it was some of the best drumming I had ever seen. He said "Thanks for taking a joke!" at which point my friend with me says "Oh yeah, no problem. By the way Vinnie FUCK YOU!!" We all had a laugh at that. What do you expect from a couple of guys just in from Jersey right?

That story has gotten back to me several times all bent out of shape. It's funny how stuff like that gets around. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Fortunately I've gotten to see a lot of drum legends:

Tony Williams and Buddy Rich, Mitchell and Hendrix, Moon with The Who, Cobham with Mahavishnu, Palmer with ELP, Porcaro with Toto, Bozzio with Missing Persons and Jeff Beck, Simon and Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, plus many others. I got to see Little Feat in the mid-80s before Lowell George died and they were brilliant. I saw a small hall '78 Stones show and have a video of it; Charlie hammers away in a Mitch-Mitchellian frenzy; and despite how good the Stones were that night opening act Peter Tosh blew them away.

But the most amazing drum performance of those was Bozzio on his roto-tom kit with Missing Persons in January 1983. Their first album was #16 on the Billboard chart and the Persons were stunningly good. Terry's showmanship came out of left field and I looked at the drums differently from that day forward.

Now, the two best stories I've ever read on HOD, so far, are The Asian Video Incident and Not Bad, Who Said That? [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Yo 13...I mean 5/8, that roto tom kit Bozzio used had a huge impact on all us kids back then. I had to have one and to this day still love it. There's something about those high pitched roto's...still love hearing the local high school band play them Friday nights during football games.
When they went way out of style I still dug the thing and had big problems using them with others..."What's that?" What was chic a few years earlier was now lame.

How can you hate a drum kit that tunes in minutes?

OK...a little off topic, but...

YEAH, Pocket...i too had to go & get rotos, altho i only got the 3-on-1 stand version [6, 8, 10"], since i already had an acoustic kit with 8, 10, 12, 14" closed toms...i tuned the rotos [in succession] up higher than the CTs, to give me those Peart hi-to-lo & back tom rolls...

I traded a cymbal for them to an at-the-time rock drummer friend of mine who was freakin' on TBoz in Persons...he needed an extra cymbal bad, i guess...he had the 3 rotos in addition to dbl-bs Ludwig clear blue vistalites...

I had to have them because
A] Peart had 6, 8, & 10" concerts
B] TB had rotos.... [img]wink.gif[/img] [img]cool.gif[/img]

Peart did some really cool rolls on those toms, but TB really showed what you could do with those suckers, didn't he [check UK awa Misg Pers]

I saw Persons on a triple bill with Triumph & Saxon [or was it Riot?] back in the early-to-mid 80's...Gil Moore was good for his role, but TB kicked all their butt's that night....

I'll have to think about it & get back to the orig topic '?' later....
